Don't forget your golf clubs when vacationing in Hawaii. The Big Island is known as the golf capital of Hawaii and one of the best places to golf in the United States. Let's face it, how many times are you going to get to golf surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. There are several courses that have been designed by champion golfers to give you an excellent challenge. There are over 18 courses on the Big Island, so take advantage of excellent views and spectacular greens while playing a great game of golf. I would recommend calling ahead and reserving tee times before your vacation. This way you are assured a tee time, and don't have to spend valuable vacation time on the phone. If you stay at our Condo at the Fairway Villas you will get a discount on the green fees at Waikoloa Golf Course. (click for more information on our condo)

Waikoloa Beach Golf Course Waikoloa King's Golf Course
600 Waikoloa Beach Drive
Waikoloa, HI 96738
Telephone: 877-924-5656

This is our fist recommendation because it is next door to our condo. This course was designed by former British Open champion Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. This course offers golfers the best of two worlds; golf in an island paradise and on a course that closely mimics a shore course on the coast of Scotland. Add in a breath-taking view of a volcano and green palms trees and you will quickly understand why this is a course created for Kings. The 7,000-plus yard links-style course snakes over and around an ancient lava flow and is best known for its wide undulating fairways, multiple tee placements, and challenging pot bunkers.

Mauna Lani Golf Course Mauna Lani Golf Coure
68-1310 Mauna Lani Drive
Kohala Coast, HI 96743
Telephone: 808-885-6655

The Mauna Lani Resort offers two 18 hole courses created by Francis H. I'i Brown. The North Course is built on a lava bed much older than the Kaniku flow and is characterized by rolling terrain punctuated by Kiawe forests. Trees often come into play on this course which is why it is a little more challenging. The South Course snakes through the stark rugged a'a lava of the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow. Volcano goddess Pele reigns supreme on this course and will favor you by miraculously bouncing your ball into the fairway. If not, kiss them goodbye. The South Course features a par 3 whose fairway is made of crashing surf. Take some time and play both, after all your on vacation! (click here for a map to Mauna Lani Golf Course)

Hapuna and Mauna Kea Golf Course Hapuna and Mauna Kea Golf Course

Kohala Coast, HI 96743
Telephone: 808-880-3000 (Hapuna)
Telephone: 808-882-5405 (Mauna Kea)

Repeatedly named to the "Best Courses" lists, these two 18 hole resort golf courses are demanding but rewarding because of the beauty. The legendary Mauna Kea Golf Course was created by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. This course presents dramatic changes in elevation, large undulating greens, and 120 well-placed bunkers. There are incredible panoramic sweeps of sea and land, featuring snow-capped Mauna Kea, rugged lava beds, and the sparkling blue Pacific. (click here for a map to Hupuna and Mauna Kea Golf Course)
