Sushi Suggestions for Waikoloa Big Island

Sensei Sushi Tuna I really enjoy sushi. It is one of the few cuisines that I think is worth dining out for. Fresh raw fish is required for good sushi, therefore you would expect the Big Island to have several sushi dining options. We have explored several places around Waikoloa Beach Resort for Sushi. Here are some of our suggestions.

If you want quick sushi I would recommend Island Gourmet Market in the Queen Shops. They make fresh sushi daily to go. I have tried the Tijuana, California, and Salmon rolls. All the rolls were great, especially for the price. If you are headed to the beach and already have a cooler, then I would suggest stopping by the Queen Shops and throw in a couple of sushi rolls. After a couple of hours playing on the beach you are going to get hungry. Crack open the cooler and pull out some sushi and your favorite drink; it makes for a very nice lunch on the beach.

If you have a sushi craving in the evening and are willing to spend an hour or so to sit down and dine then I would recommend Sansei Seafood, Steak, and Sushi Bar which is also located in the Queen Shops. Sansei Sushi has some great deals if you are willing to go a little early (5pm) on Sunday or Monday where you can save between 25-50% off on all sushi orders. They also serve seafood and steak if you have others in your party that don’t like sushi.

One place that I would not recommend is the Sushi Bar in the Hilton Hotel. We got Grandma and Grandpa to watch the kids and went over to the Hilton to try their sushi. The hotel was beautiful and the ambiance was perfect. The sushi was not good, in fact we didn’t even finish our order and ended up going and getting some dessert to fill up. For those that love sushi, you will realize that you never leave good sushi on a plate when you are not full. Maybe we just went on a bad day, but I am not going back when I have the other options so close that are much better.
